Luke Warren Hughes is an American professional ice hockey defenseman who plays for the New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Born on September 9, 2003, in Manchester, he stands at 6’2″ and weighs around 198 pounds.
He shoots left and is widely recognized as one of the most promising young offensive defensemen in the league.
As the youngest of the three Hughes brothers, all of whom have reached the NHL, Luke has carved out his own identity while benefiting from a deeply hockey-oriented family background.
Siblings
Luke’s eldest brother, Quinn Hughes, is a defenseman for the Vancouver Canucks and was selected seventh overall in the 2018 NHL Draft.
The middle brother, Jack Hughes, is a highly skilled forward for the New Jersey Devils, where he was taken first overall in the 2019 NHL Draft and plays alongside Luke.
Their parents, Jim and Ellen Hughes, have strong hockey ties as well, Jim played collegiately at Providence Friars, and Ellen was a multi-sport athlete at the University of New Hampshire.

Career
Hughes began his hockey journey in the United States National Team Development Program before committing to the University of Michigan.
In his two seasons with the Wolverines, he excelled offensively, recording 87 points (27 goals and 60 assists) in 80 games and helping the team capture a Big Ten championship.
His performance earned him recognition as a Hobey Baker Memorial Award finalist, among other honors.
Selected fourth overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Hughes turned professional after his sophomore college season.
He made his NHL debut in the 2022-23 season and has since developed into a key contributor on the Devils’ blue line.
Known for his exceptional skating, puck-moving ability, and offensive instincts, Luke complements his brother Jack effectively on the ice.
