There was panic when a man surrendered to Mwitika police post in Zombe, Kitui County, saying he had killed a woman.
The man was carrying a blood-stained panga when he surrendered saying the murder happened in Kikuu village on Wednesday.
Police visited the scene and found the dismembered body of Elizabeth Kala, 50 in a pool of blood in her compound.
She had multiple injuries then in the head which had been dismembered from the torso.
The suspect was disarmed and detained in custody pending arraignment. Police said he will be subjected to psychiatric tests before being arraigned. The motive of the murder was not established.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
And a 50-year-old man was killed in an altercation at a joint in Marafa, Magarini, Kilifi County.
Police said Charles Charo Baya was hit in the head and fell fatally at the scene on January 14.
The assailant used a club to hit him after an altercation over unknown issues.
Police were called to the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
Elsewhere in Macalder, Migori County, a man was found murdered and body abandoned in a thicket. Police believe the man was killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the scene. The body had injuries in the head and the motive of the murder is yet to be known, police said.

Meanwhile, a suspect was arrested for murder of one Ignatius Mwangi, 38 in Muranga. The suspect was arrested in Nairobi’s Kamkunji area where he was hiding, police said. He was moved to Muranga pending processing for plea taking.
Police said they are pursuing dozens of murder incidents in the country.
