Police in Kitui County have arrested a 42-year-old man after recovering a firearm from his possession in Lower Yatta Sub-County.
The arrest followed a report made to police on Tuesday, August 18, by a woman who alerted authorities that her husband was in possession of a firearm.
A team of National Police Service officers from Lower Yatta Sub-County proceeded to the scene and recovered a black firearm manufactured in England and marked T.J. Harrington and Son, Walton, Survey, 4.5mm.
The suspect aged 42, was arrested in connection with the possession of the firearm.
Police documented and photographed the scene before taking the firearm into custody.
Investigations have been launched to establish how the suspect acquired the firearm and whether it was legally licensed.
The suspect is expected to assist detectives in determining the circumstances surrounding the possession of the weapon.
Detectives from the Land Fraud Investigation Unit (LFIU) have arrested a woman and her daughter over their alleged involvement in a Sh40 million land fraud scheme involving family property in Karatina.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects, Mary Muthoni Njogu and her daughter, Veronica Wambui Ng’ang’a, are accused of fraudulently transferring several parcels of family land into their names and those of companies associated with them.
The investigation was launched after a family member, acting on behalf of his siblings, lodged a complaint alleging that the two had secretly transferred the valuable properties without the knowledge or consent of other family members.
The DCI said investigations established that the alleged fraudulent transactions were carried out between 2020 and 2023, with the suspects deliberately excluding other family members from the transfers.
Upon completion of the investigations, the case file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review. The ODPP subsequently directed that the suspects be charged with conspiracy to defraud and fraudulent procurement of title.
The mother and daughter were arrested on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, and are expected to be arraigned at the Karatina Law Courts on Wednesday, August 19.
