Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Mutuati, Meru County, have arrested a 51-year-old man suspected of masterminding a scheme involving the forgery of court documents.
The suspect, identified as Henry Kinyua Mbiti, is accused of allegedly creating counterfeit court documents and presenting them to unsuspecting litigants with cases pending before the Maua Law Courts and the Meru High Court.
According to the DCI, Mbiti allegedly posed as a court official and misled the litigants into believing that the documents he presented were genuine and had been lawfully issued by the courts.
The arrest followed investigations into the suspected document forgery scheme.
After apprehending Mbiti, detectives searched his rented residence in Mutuati Town, where they recovered several documents believed to have been forged.
The items included suspected fake court orders purportedly issued by the High Court of Kenya in Meru and the Maua Law Courts.
Detectives also recovered various land ownership documents, including Certificates of Land Title, Identity Cards and other materials suspected to have been used in the alleged fraudulent activities.
The recovered documents have been secured as exhibits and are undergoing verification and further examination to establish their authenticity and determine the extent of the alleged scheme.
“Mbiti remains in custody at Kabachi Police Post, where he awaits arraignment, as the investigation continues,” the DCI said.
