    Man dies after assault following night vigil in Homa Bay

    Police in Rachuonyo East Sub-County, Homa Bay County, are investigating a murder incident after a 50-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained during an assault by unknown attackers.

    According to police the incident John Odhiambo Owoudh, had attended a night vigil.

    At around 3:00 a.m March 21, the deceased reportedly left the homestead to return home on foot when he was attacked and seriously assaulted by unknown people.

    Despite his injuries, he managed to reach home, where he communicated the ordeal to his brother through gestures, as he had been rendered unable to speak.

    He was initially taken to Queen Rivers Medical Facility in Kandogo Trading Centre, where he received treatment and was discharged.

    However, his condition later worsened, prompting his transfer to Rachuonyo County Referral Hospital and subsequently to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

    The victim was later admitted to Nyangena Medical Facility in Kisii Town, where he unfortunately died while undergoing treatment.

    And a 25-year-old man died after being electrocuted while allegedly attempting to gain entry into a bar through the rooftop in Kathiani Sub-County, Machakos County.

    Police said the incident occurred at a bar in Mukukuni Market within Muonyweni Village.

    Police said they found the lifeless body of Stephen Ndeto Kyalo lying on the rooftop of the premises.

    Preliminary investigations revealed that the bar attendant had closed the establishment at around 11:20 p.m. and remained with a customer who was settling his bill.

    Moments later, they heard a commotion and screams coming from the rooftop.

    Upon checking, they discovered that the deceased had allegedly attempted to access the bar through the roof after finding the main door closed. In the process, he came into contact with a live, exposed electric wire and was electrocuted, dying instantly.

    The scene was documented and processed by crime scene investigators, and the body was moved to Kangundo Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

    Police have urged property owners to ensure proper insulation of electrical wiring to prevent similar fatal incidents.

    Elsewhere, police in Maara Sub-County, Tharaka-Nithi County, launched investigations into a suspected murder after the body of a 68-year-old man was discovered by the roadside in Kiang’ondu Village.

    According to police the incident was reported after the body was found lying along a roadside approximately eight kilometres west of the station.

    The deceased was identified as Lazaro Kaburu Mwambia, a casual labourer from Ntuani Village, Iruma Sub-location, by his son, Bornface Mutwiri.

    Preliminary findings revealed that the body had multiple injuries, including a deep cut wound on the neck believed to have been inflicted using a sharp object, pointing to a possible violent attack.

    The scene was processed by crime scene personnel, and the body was moved to Chuka Level Five Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

    Police have commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and to identify those responsible.
