Police in Nakuru are investigating a suspected murder-suicide incident after a man and his nine-year-old son were found dead inside their rented apartment in Section 58 estate.

The incident was reported at around 9.45pm on Thursday after the wife of the deceased arrived at their house at Plural Apartments on the sixth floor and discovered the two lying unresponsive on a bed in the main bedroom.

The deceased were identified as 34-year-old Arthur Mwangi Wanjama and his son, Garret Mwangi Wanjama.

Police officers visited the apartment and found the bodies lying on the bed with foam around their mouths and noses.

Investigators recovered a half-empty 100ml bottle of Abamite pesticide on a chair in the sitting room and a quarter-empty bottle of Mos-N-Roach insecticide on the bedroom floor.

The scene was processed and documented before the bodies were moved to the PNN mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

It is not clear what motivated the move.

Police said they were pursuing various theories.

This is the latest case of suicide in the country. Up to four cases are reported daily in a worrying trend. Most of the victims are men, statistics show amid probe on the same.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.

Meanwhile, police in Embu County launched investigations into a suspected murder after the decomposing body of an unidentified man was discovered in a maize plantation in Nembure area.

According to the police, the incident was reported at around 7.30pm on Thursday after a resident alerted authorities about the body.

Police visited the area and confirmed the body was in a decomposed state.

Police said the deceased had sustained multiple head injuries, raising suspicion of foul play.

The scene was processed before the body was moved to Embu Level 5 Hospital mortuary pending identification and postmortem examination.

Investigations into the suspected murder are ongoing.
