Police in Mwea, Kirinyaga County launched investigations into a fire incident that claimed the life of a 70-year-old man in Ndaba village.

The incident was discovered on Tuesday morning after family members noticed heavy smoke coming from the victim’s house at around 5am.

The deceased was identified as Philip Muchiri Naman.

His sons reportedly rushed to the house and found their father’s body lying on a burnt mattress inside the house.

A team of police visited the scene and established that the deceased had suffered severe burns, with the right side of the body burnt beyond recognition.

Crime Scene Investigation officers documented the scene before the body was moved to Kibugi Mortuary in Kutus pending a postmortem examination.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

And a 52-year-old man was seriously injured after being electrocuted by hanging internet cables at a primary school in Nyamira County.

According to police in Manga Sub-County, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening at Kenyerere Primary School.

Police officers who responded to the scene found the victim unconscious after reportedly coming into contact with hanging WiFi cables.

Police said the victim sustained multiple burn injuries on the head and legs during the electrocution incident.

He was rescued from the scene and rushed to Tombe Medicare Hospital for emergency treatment while unconscious.

Such incidents have been on the rise both in urban and rural areas amid efforts to address them. Officials blame illegal power connections and use of quacks for wiring for the same.

Kenya Power and Lighting officials say there is a campaign to address the menace in different places.

This is after it emerged most of the electrocution incidents are fatal. This has left many families traumatized and with huge bills to settle after the death of their loved ones.
