A 90-year-old man died while several others were injured following a stampede during a food distribution exercise in Kisii County.
The incident occurred on April 15, 2026 at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Gucha Sub-County, where residents had gathered to receive food donations reportedly offered by area MP Alfa Miruka.
According to police, a large crowd formed and chaos ensued as people struggled to access the food supplies.
In the commotion, Nathan Ombui, 90, fell and was trampled by the crowd.
He was rushed to Gucha Sub-County Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
At least eight other people sustained injuries during the incident and are currently admitted at the same facility in fair condition.
The injured include individuals aged between 13 and 92, with reported injuries ranging from chest trauma and fractures to head and spinal injuries.
Police said the body of the deceased was preserved at the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the stampede, including crowd control measures at the event.
And a man died after allegedly consuming a chemical substance he had prepared in the Githurai 44 area of Kasarani, Nairobi.
According to the police, the incident was reported on April 15, 2026 by the deceased’s brother.
The brother told police that the deceased began experiencing difficulty in seeing and severe stomach complications after ingesting the substance on April 13, 2026, within the Sonic area.
The victim was rushed to Kiambu General Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. However, he succumbed on April 14, 2026, while undergoing care.
The body has since been moved to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Elsewhere, police in Kwanza Sub-county, Trans Nzoia County, have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was found floating in River Mto Pengo.
According to police, the body was retrieved by a team from the Kitale Fire Brigade and it was already in a decomposed state at the time of recovery, making immediate identification difficult.
The remains were later moved to Kitale General Hospital mortuary, where they are being preserved pending post-mortem examination and identification.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify the deceased.
