A 23-year-old man drowned while attempting to rescue a woman who had slipped into a pond in Rarieda Sub-County, Siaya County.

Police identified the deceased as Brian Oticha Odhiambo, 23, of Masala Village.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 10.30 a.m. on Monday at a pond in Masala Village, Masala Sublocation.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a woman was fetching water when she slipped and fell into the pond.
Brian Oticha Odhiambo and another man reportedly rushed to rescue her.

Police said the woman and the other man were successfully rescued and taken to Masala Health Centre, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

However, Oticha drowned during the rescue attempt.

Police said efforts to retrieve his body were ongoing as investigations into the incident continued.

And a 30-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his 75-year-old father to death following a domestic dispute in Kathekakai, Machakos County.

According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at Makadara Village in Kathekakai Location.

Police identified the deceased as Justus Nzioka Muli, 75, while the suspect is his son.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect arrived home at about 1.30 a.m. while allegedly intoxicated and behaving violently.

Police said he was heard threatening to kill someone before entering his house and emerging with a kitchen knife.

The deceased reportedly attempted to calm his son down, but the suspect allegedly turned on him and stabbed him several times in the back.

The elderly man collapsed outside his house and died at the scene.

Police visited and processed the scene before removing the body to the Machakos Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police recovered the suspected murder weapon, a kitchen knife, as well as clothing believed to be relevant to the investigation.

The suspect was arrested at the scene while reportedly still intoxicated and has been placed in police custody pending further investigations and arraignment in court.
