A man was electrocuted in an incident in Keroka, Nyamira County.

The body of John Omoso, 70 was found lying next to a Kenya Power and Lighting stay wire long after he had died.

Kenya Power officials were called to the scene and confirmed the stay wire had power leakage and had caused the electrocution.

This prompted a probe on how the power was leaking to the wire. They are thought to be safe as they do not touch the power cables.

The victim is thought to have leaned on the wire leading to the death. The body was moved to the mortuary pending investigations.

A stay wire is a high-tensile, galvanized steel cable used to stabilize vertical structures like utility poles, telecommunication masts and towers.

Electrocution cases have been on the rise in both rural and urban areas in an alarming rate amid efforts to address the trend.

In Kitui Town, the body of a man was found on a verandah after a suspected sudden death. The man had no identification documents when the body was found on Wednesday, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

In Kendu Bay, Homa Bay County, the body of a man was found drowned in Lake Victoria. The body is believed to have been swept to the banks of the lake where it was discovered on Wednesday.

The police said the body was decomposing when it was discovered and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

In Mandera’s Ashabito area, a driver of a van that was transporting miraa drowned in floods.

The victim was identified as Edo Hassan Amin and had drowned with his vehicle as he navigated through a flooded river.

Locals retrieved his body on March 25 and buried it at a local cemetery before informing the police.

Flood related death incidents have hit 90 in the past weeks, police say.
