Detectives launched a manhunt for a woman accused of fatally stabbing her brother-in-law during a domestic altercation in Kuria, Migori County.

According to police, the incident occurred on April 18 in the Nyamtiro area.

It is reported that a dispute began when children from two related households started fighting while playing.

The situation escalated when their parents—identified as Gitangenyi Gati, who is now deceased, and his sister-in-law—intervened and became involved in the confrontation.

During the altercation, the woman allegedly stabbed Gati in the neck, inflicting serious injuries.

Members of the public rushed the injured man to Mother Soulprit Hospital in Senta Market for first aid before he was referred to Oasis Hospital in Kehancha for specialized treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

His body has been moved to the same hospital’s mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Police say the suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident and is currently on the run. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend her as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing continue.

Authorities have appealed to the public to provide any information that may lead to her arrest.

Elsewhere, police in Kisumu East Sub-county launched investigations after the body of an unidentified woman was discovered floating in Nyamasaria River under suspicious circumstances.

According to the police, the incident was reported on April 18, 2026, at around 4:50 p.m. by a local resident who spotted what appeared to be a human body while walking along the riverbank at Rae Kanyaiaka Village in Kolwa Central Location.

Police visited the scene and confirmed the body of an unknown African female adult, which is believed to have been carried downstream by the fast-flowing waters following heavy rainfall currently being experienced in the area.

With the assistance of county divers, the body was retrieved from the river. A preliminary examination revealed a deep cut wound on the head, with blood also observed oozing from the nose—raising suspicions of foul play.

Police suspect the woman may have been murdered elsewhere and her body dumped in the river in an attempt to conceal the crime.

The scene was processed and documented by forensic officers before the body was moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits identification and a postmortem examination.

Authorities are now appealing to members of the public with missing persons reports or any information that could assist in identifying the deceased to come forward as investigations continue.
