Police in Trans Nzoia County launched a manhunt for a suspect accused of fatally stabbing a 28-year-old man during a dispute over a land boundary in Kwanza Sub-County.

Witnesses said Brian Wekesa was attacked on July 11 after intervening in an altercation between his mother and their neighbour.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, allegedly confronted and assaulted a 53-year-old woman who is the deceased’s mother, over a longstanding land boundary dispute.

When Wekesa stepped in to stop the assault, the suspect allegedly stabbed him with a knife, inflicting serious injuries.

The victim was rushed to Kwanza Sub-County Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The woman was admitted to the same hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack and remains at large.

Police officers visited the scene, which was later processed by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers from Kitale.

The body, which bore stab wounds to the abdomen, the left upper side of the eye and a deep cut on the left shoulder, was moved to Cherangany Nursing Home Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations and are pursuing the suspect.

Meanwhile, police in Murang’a County launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was found lying by the roadside in Kandara Sub-County.

Police received information at about 7.14pm on July 11 that a body was lying at the Nguthuru–Muruka Junction near Sarara Building.

Police officers visited the scene where they found the body of an unidentified adult male lying face down by the roadside. The deceased had no visible external injuries.

Crime scene officers documented and processed the scene before the body was removed to the Murang’a Level 5 Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending identification and a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Police have opened investigations into the incident and are working to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding his death.
