    Man kills his granddaughter, dies by suicide in Laikipia

    A 68-year-old man clobbered to death his granddaughter before he died by suicide in Ngobit, Laikipia County.

    The man had been left at home to take care of the three-year-old girl when the incident happened on February 23, 2026, police said.

    The motive of the murder and suicide was not immediately known.

    According to the police, the body of Titus Wamae was found hanging on a truss of his house with a rope tied around his neck.

    The body of the girl was found on the floor and rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

    Police suspect the man strangled the girl and hit her with a blunt object killing her. The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations, police said.

    This is the latest such incident to happen amid concerns of the rise of the suicide, murder trend. Police investigations have linked them to depression which is on the rise.

    Elsewhere, police are investigating an incident where the body of a man was found at a beach in Ngerenya area, Kilifi County after suspected drowning.

    The body was discovered at Soyosoyo beach on February 23 by local fishermen after it had been washed to the shores of the Indian Ocean.

    Police said the man’s eyes had been gorged out and his skin was peeling off on both hands and forehead. The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

    Elsewhere in Hagadera, Garissa County, one Amino Mohamed, 44 was electrocuted in her house within the refugee camp.

    The victim is said to have been cleaning her fridge when she was electrocuted and died on the spot. She was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

    The body was later buried as per Islamic rites.

    And seven people were Monday night killed in separate accidents in the country. The victims included two riders, two pedestrians, two drivers and a pillion passenger.

    Police said 20 people were injured in the accidents.
