A man accused of attempting to sneak daughter out of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in attempt to defraud the hospital a sum of Ksh.56, 937 has been charged.

Bonface Murage Wangechi, 22, was arraigned before Milimani Law Courts on Monday and charged with attempting to smuggle his daughter out of hospital using a carrier bag.

The prosecution told the court that Mr. Murage was intercepted on February 16, by the hospital security guards while leaving the facility carrying something in a blue carrier bag. After a search, it was discovered that he was carrying a baby.

Investigations revealed that the baby was a patient at the hospital and the man was attempting to avoid paying a one-month fee that accrued.

Appearing before Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe, Murage pleaded guilty, saying circumstances forced him to attempt escaping with the daughter.

He told the court that he didn’t have the money to settle accrued hospital bill.

Murage further allayed his fears that he didn’t want his wife and child to continue being held at the facility as he was not in a position to clear the bill.

Judge Nzibe remanded the accused until Tuesday February 19, 2019, when facts of the case will be read in court before a final judgement is passed.
