Detectives in Imenti North, Meru County, are investigating a violent robbery where a gang of three armed men attacked a couple on Sunday.
The robbers stabbed a man, raped his girlfriend, and stole their belongings before escaping.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the victims reported the incident at 5 a.m.
They were heading home to Mwitetia from Meru Town on a bodaboda when they were ambushed by the machete-wielding gang at Gakoromone.
The suspects were also riding on a motorcycle.
Authorities said the bodaboda rider managed to escape by jumping off the moving bike, leaving the couple vulnerable.
The attackers forced the victims off the motorcycle and robbed them of their phones and cash.
They then dragged the woman away and raped her, while her boyfriend, who tried to defend her, was stabbed in the inner thigh.
Passersby later found the injured victims and rushed them to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they received treatment before being discharged.
DCI detectives have launched investigations and vowed to track down the attackers. “It is just a matter of time before they are brought to book,” the police stated.
