There was tension in Mathare over the weekend as two rival groups clashed .

The two groups, both affiliated to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are believed to have started the fights in Mathare Area 4. This was after a court ordered a repeat of the area’s ODM primaries.
The clashes that took place on Saturday, July 1, injured 12 people after engaging the police in running battles. Houses and business premises were said to have been stoned forcing the officers to use teargas.

One group allied to Abel Osumba Atito, who had beaten incumbent Wilson Ochola, claimed the repeat poll that was scheduled for Sunday, July 2, was orchestrated by Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang and ODM in favour of Ochola.

The rowdy supporters blocked a part of Thika Super Highway.
