The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) and the Kenya Editors’ Guild have mourned the passing of veteran newscaster Njoroge Mwaura, who died on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the age of 74.

Mwaura succumbed to complications following surgery while receiving treatment at The Karen Hospital.

Kenya Editors’ Guild President Zubeidah Kananu paid tribute to Mwaura, praising his dedication and significant contributions to journalism, particularly in news anchoring, continuity announcing, and mentoring young journalists.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, Kenya Television Network (KTN), and the entire media fraternity. He was an inspiration to the current generation of journalists, some of whom he trained in news reading and screen presence,” Kananu said.

Mwaura, whose last station of service was KTN in 2014, suffered a stroke nine years ago. He is survived by his wife and four children.

His career began at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) before he moved to KTN, where he became a household name. He was best known for his popular segment, Njoroge’s Notebook, where he eloquently tackled a wide range of topics, from politics to socio-economic issues.

The Media Council of Kenya described Mwaura as a true legend and mentor, acknowledging his impact on the journalism industry.

“He will be remembered for his exceptional work ethic, professionalism, and the inspiration he provided to the journalism profession,” MCK said in a statement.
