Micky van de Ven is a Dutch professional footballer born on 19 April 2001 in Wormer, Netherlands.
He primarily plays as a centre-back and can also operate as a left-back and currently represents Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and the Netherlands national team.
Known especially for his exceptional pace, recovery speed, athleticism and composure on the ball, van de Ven has established himself as one of the most dynamic and highly regarded young defenders in European football.
He grew up in a supportive family environment in the Wormer area, where his early passion for the game was evident from a young age.
Siblings
Micky is the only son of parents Marcel van de Ven and Bianca Huijgen.
He has one sister named Caya van de Ven.
Their father, a former undercover police detective who later became a well-known television personality in the Netherlands through shows related to his investigative work.
Career
Van de Ven began his youth career at local club WSV ’30 before joining the FC Volendam academy in 2013.
He progressed through the ranks and made his senior debut for Volendam in the Eerste Divisie during the 2019–20 season.

He became a regular and was made captain in his first full campaign, helping the side reach the promotion play-offs while contributing goals.
In 2021 he transferred to German Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg for a modest fee.
After an initial period of adaptation, he became a regular starter, notably featuring in nearly every league match in the 2022–23 season and recording the highest top speed among Bundesliga defenders that year.
In August 2023, Tottenham Hotspur signed him on a long-term deal in a transfer that equalled the club’s record fee for a centre-back at the time.
He quickly adapted to the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou and later continued under subsequent managers, forming a strong partnership in central defence.
Van de Ven contributed both defensively and with occasional goals, including important strikes, while dealing with injury setbacks in some seasons.
His pace remained a standout attribute, with multiple recordings confirming him among the fastest players in the Premier League.
On the international stage, he represented the Netherlands at under-21 level before earning his senior debut in 2023.
He has since become a regular in the national team squad, featuring at UEFA Euro 2024 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Among his individual recognitions, van de Ven was named Tottenham Hotspur’s Official Supporters’ Clubs Player of the Season for the 2023–24 campaign after a strong debut year in which he featured regularly.
His most significant team honour came in May 2025 when he helped Tottenham win the UEFA Europa League, ending the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy.
In the final against Manchester United he produced a crucial acrobatic goal-line clearance that preserved the 1–0 victory.
He has also been widely praised for his exceptional speed, repeatedly ranking as one of the quickest defenders and overall players in both the Bundesliga and Premier League.
