    Early Life

Miguel Ferrer was born on February 7, 1955, in Santa Monica, California. He was the eldest of five children born to singer Rosemary Clooney and Oscar-winning actor José Ferrer.

His family had deep connections to the entertainment industry. His mother was a celebrated singer, while his father was an acclaimed actor and filmmaker. Ferrer’s maternal uncle was Nick Clooney, making actor George Clooney his first cousin.

Ferrer attended Beverly Hills High School before studying acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. His family background gave him an early connection to Hollywood, but he ultimately established his own identity as an actor.

    Television Career

Ferrer began his professional television career in the early 1980s with appearances on shows such as Magnum, P.I., Trapper John, M.D., CHiPs, Cagney & Lacey and Hill Street Blues.

He continued taking guest roles throughout the decade, appearing on Houston Knights, Hotel, Ohara, Hooperman and Miami Vice. He also appeared in several television films, including Guts and Glory: The Rise and Fall of Oliver North and Shannon’s Deal.

One of his most memorable early television roles came in Twin Peaks, where he played FBI forensics specialist Albert Rosenfield. The character became closely associated with Ferrer’s career, and he later reprised the role in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me and, posthumously, in Twin Peaks: The Return in 2017.

In 2001, Ferrer landed one of his biggest television roles as Dr. Garret Macy on the NBC crime drama Crossing Jordan. The series ran for six seasons through 2007.

Ferrer later appeared in shows including Medium, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Kings, Lie to Me and Psych. He also had a recurring role on Desperate Housewives and a leading role on The Protector.

In 2012, he joined NCIS: Los Angeles as Owen Granger. He remained with the series until his death in 2017.

    Film Career

Ferrer made his first substantial film appearance in the 1983 drama Heartbreaker. He subsequently appeared in smaller roles before landing his breakthrough performance in Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 science-fiction action film RoboCop.

In the movie, Ferrer played Bob Morton, an ambitious corporate executive involved in the development of RoboCop. The role brought him wider recognition and became one of his best-known film performances.

He subsequently appeared in movies including Deepstar Six, Revenge, The Guardian and Point of No Return. He also reprised his Albert Rosenfield character in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.

Throughout the 1990s, Ferrer appeared in Hot Shots! Part Deux, Another Stakeout, Blank Check, The Night Flier and Mr. Magoo. In 1998, he starred in Where’s Marlowe? and provided the voice of Hun chieftain Shan Yu in Disney’s animated film Mulan.

Ferrer continued working in major films during the 2000s. His credits included Traffic, Sunshine State, The Manchurian Candidate, Silver City, The Man and Wrong Turn at Tahoe.

In 2013, he appeared as Vice President Rodriguez in Iron Man 3, which became his final live-action film role. His later credits included voice work in Rio 2 and Teen Titans: The Judas Contract.
