Miles has one older brother, Tyler Wood.

Tyler also pursued a hockey career, playing collegiately at Brown University and briefly professionally in Germany.

Their shared upbringing in a hockey-centric household helped shape their paths in the sport, though Miles advanced to the NHL while Tyler’s professional playing time was more limited.

    Career

Wood was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round, 100th overall, of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft while still playing at Noble and Greenough School, a prep school in Massachusetts.

He spent one standout season at Boston College in 2015-16, recording 35 points in 37 games, before signing an entry-level contract with the Devils and making his NHL debut in April 2016.

His early years with New Jersey showed steady development.

He scored his first NHL goal in November 2016 and broke out in the 2017-18 season with a career-high 19 goals and 32 points, including his first hat trick.

Wood played a key role in helping the Devils reach the playoffs that year.

He remained with the Devils through the 2022-23 season, serving as a reliable forward known for his speed, physicality, and penalty minutes.

In July 2023, Wood signed a six-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche as a free agent.

After two seasons there, including an injury-affected 2024-25 campaign, he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in June 2025 along with Charlie Coyle.

As of the 2025-26 season, Wood continues to bring energy and veteran leadership to the Blue Jackets lineup.

Over his career, he has also represented the United States internationally at the World Junior Championship and senior World Championship.

    Accolades

Wood’s 2017-18 season stands out as a personal best, highlighted by his first NHL hat trick against the Chicago Blackhawks and helping the Devils clinch a playoff berth.

He has accumulated over 500 NHL games played, demonstrating durability and value as a depth forward capable of contributing offensively and with physical play.

Wood has also been noted for leadership and family ties in the hockey world, carrying forward the legacy of his father Randy Wood, a longtime NHL veteran.
