Tragedy struck a family when their two minors who were on a swimming expedition drowned in a pool of water in Pala area, Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County.

The children were aged 10 and eight. The one aged 10 was a grade four pupil at Bright Kids Academy in Nairobi while the one aged eight was a grade two pupil at Holy Spirit Academy in Nairobi. The drowning happened on December 27 at a pool of water at an abandoned quarry in Kanguta C village. The children were on holidays at the time of the incident, police said.

They had sneaked out to the water to swim when they drowned.

Their bodies were retrieved and taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other investigations. The incident left the family devastated.

And a fisherman was killed in a hippopotamus attack at the Masinga Dam, Mwea, Embu County.

Two fishermen were on a boat at the dam on December 27 when a hippo attacked them. This forced the boat to capsize and one of them identified as Paul Muli, 40 drowned.

The other fisherman swam to safety.

The body of Muli was retrieved and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.

Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident in which a 21-year-old man was hacked to death in an incident in Dandora area, Nairobi.

The motive of the attack on Henry Otieno was not known. Police said he was attacked by a gang in the Canaan area and left with deadly injuries in the face. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries on December 27 evening.

Police moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and hunt on the gang.

And police in Matungulu, Machakos County are investigating the death of a man whose body was found floating in a pit full of water.

It is not clear how the victim died in the water. Police said the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and identification.
