A female law student at the Moi University in Eldoret was found dead after a suspected suicide mission.

She was identified as Reginah Njeri Wanjiku, 20, a second-year law student. Her body was found on Wednesday, March 25, hanging on the door grill of her rented house in Annex Shopping centre, Sugunanga area, police said.

Her mother had called her in vain. She then called her friends asking them to check on her as she was not responding to her calls.

Police said the deceased used a leso to hang herself and that she left a suicide note that said she loved all and she was sorry for her decision.

The motive of the incident was not established as police moved the body to the mortuary for autopsy. It left her colleagues in shock.

The incident was among six incidents of suicide reported on Wednesday alone.

Another incident was reported in Emurua Dikirr area, Bomet County where a 24-year-old man died by suicide in his house. He was identified as Dominic Kipngetich.

Another incident was reported in Nyacheki, Kisii County and in Riruta, Nairobi.

Suicide incidents have been on the rise in the country amid efforts to address the menace.

Most of the victims are men, statistics show amid probe on the same.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.

Meanwhile, four suspects linked to a series of robbery with violence and murder incidents in Kuria West Sub-County have been formally arraigned following their arrest earlier this month.

The suspects—Lekishon Simion Nawapa, Marwa Samuel Nyamohanga, Melchizedek Marwa Chacha, and Julius Mwita Juma alias Kehogo—were arrested on March 5, 2026 and presented before the Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court on March 9, 2026 under Miscellaneous Application, where custodial orders were granted pending completion of investigations.

On March 23, 2026, they four were arraigned for plea taking and were subsequently charged under three separate case files where they faced seven counts of robbery with violence and two counts of attempted murder.

    They were all remanded.
