Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has asked the government to stop demolishing buildings sitting on riparian land and instead “move the rivers.”
The county boss who just returned from a US tour noted that bringing down the properties is an expensive affair which he does not agree with.
“Kama watu wanasupport ubomoaji, mimi hapana support. Mambo iangaliwe kama kuna nyumba yako imekaribiana na mto, wewe uambiwe ni gharama yako kuhakikisha hiyo mto imesonga kidogo. Lakini kubomoa nyumba is not a solution. Honestly speaking. It’s such a big loss,” Waititu said.
The National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) has so far demolished the Ukay Mall, Oshwal Centre, Java and the South End Mall.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday maintained that the state will also punish officials who who made approvals for those properties.
He also stated that he has in the past couple of weeks lost friends for not stopping the demolitions.
“I have lost close friends over the war on corruption. We must be ready to lose friends and do what is right in the eyes of God,” the President said.
KoT have reacted to the video of the governor’s request which has since gone viral:

Lets all just accept that there's ujinga……then there is PUNJINGA! The former is redeemable….the latter though, is congenital; irrevocably innate!
