Members of the National Assembly Committee on Sports and Culture have expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Sh141 million Wundanyi Resource Cultural and Youth Centre in Taita Taveta County.
The committee, led by Matungulu MP Stephen Mule, toured the facility on Friday as part of their oversight duties to ensure public funds are being used properly.
“We are here to confirm whether there is value for money in this project, which has been allocated Sh141 million. So far, we are satisfied with the workmanship and the pace of construction,” Mule said.
The project is being implemented by the State Department for Youth Affairs and the Creative Economy. It aims to provide a modern space for young people to access training, cultural resources and opportunities in talent development. It will also serve as a centre for preserving local culture and promoting tourism in the region.
According to Ministry officials, the centre is being constructed at a cost of Sh140,989,860. Construction began on March 7, 2023, and by June 30, 2025, the government had spent Sh84.15 million, representing 60% of the work completed.
Mule said the committee is optimistic that the facility will empower the youth and uplift the cultural profile of Taita Taveta County. “What is being built here is not just a building — it is an important centre that will benefit the entire community and the region,” he said.
Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, who hosted the team along with ministry officials and the contractor, thanked the lawmakers for the visit. He also urged the government to release the remaining funds on time so that the project can be completed as scheduled.
