    MPs Vow To Reject President’s Proposal On VAT On Fuel Products

    Members of parliament have vowed to oppose the proposal by President Uhuru to reduce the VAT tax on fuel to 8% from 16%, They have said that taxation will still have an effect on the cost of living.

    The leader of minority John Mbadi said that he would rally his members to reject the proposals that the president had sent to parliament. Embakasi East member of parliament Babu Owino said that he will also reject the proposals and that the VAT should zero rated.

    His Langata constituency counterpart Nixon Korir said that the government should reduce the Big 4 agenda to the big 2 so that the development agenda would fit into the budget.

    Sabina Chege on the other hand said that the government should consider  taxing goods that are imported such as eggs from Uganda.

    Starehe member of parliament Charles Njagua said that he was not opposing the presidents proposal but he urged him to  hasten the fight against corruption in order to restore the trust of the citizens.

    President Kenyatta proposed that the VAT be reduced to 8%  and also to cut down on government spending.The proposed recommendations will be discussed in parliament.
