Confusion as Multimedia University Students Stage Strike Over Exam Grievances

Police used teargas canisters to disperse a section of students at the Multimedia University of Kenya who staged protests on Monday, demanding that the administration address examination-related grievances.

This led to unrest around the campus.

Anti-riot police were deployed to contain the demonstrations and prevent disruption of traffic and other activities in the area. Reports indicate that the protesting students engaged security officers in confrontations as authorities moved to disperse the crowds.

Police fired teargas canisters to break up the demonstrations, forcing the students away from key access roads and the university premises. The protests disrupted traffic flow along the busy Magadi Road, causing delays for motorists and public transport operators.

Police officials said they would not allow the protesters to disrupt businesses and normal activities in the area.

There was no immediate official comment from the university administration regarding the students’ demands or the circumstances that triggered the protests.

The latest unrest adds to a history of student demonstrations at Multimedia University over welfare and academic concerns. Previous protests have similarly disrupted transport along Magadi Road and prompted police intervention.

No injuries or arrests were immediately reported following the incident.
