The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that several parts of the country, including Nairobi, will receive rain over the weekend and into next week.

In its weekend advisory released on Friday, November 14, the department said rainfall is expected to continue over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley region, Western Kenya and the Lake Victoria Basin for the next five days. The forecast shows that moderate to heavy rains will fall between Friday this week and Tuesday next week, although some areas will still experience sunny breaks.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Kenya Met says that Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi counties will receive moderate morning rains, short sunny periods during the day, and more showers in the afternoon and evening.

A similar pattern is expected in parts of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin. Counties such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet will experience heavier rains. According to the forecast, rainfall in these regions will mostly begin in the afternoon and continue into the night, and may be accompanied by thunderstorms.

Light rains are also expected in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County.
