The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has warned that parts of the country, including Nairobi, are likely to receive rainfall over the next three days.

In an advisory issued on Friday, December 26, 2025, Kenya Met said moderate to heavy rain is expected from Saturday, December 27, to Tuesday, December 30. The probability of rainfall ranges between 33% and 66%.

The southeastern lowlands are expected to receive more than 20mm of rain on December 27. The rainfall is predicted to intensify to over 30mm on December 28 and 29, spreading to highlands west and east of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and southern parts of the Coastal region. The intensity is expected to reduce by December 30.

Counties likely to be affected include Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii, Narok, Kajiado, Makueni, Machakos, Nairobi, Kericho, Bomet, southern Kitui, Taita Taveta, and Kwale.

Kenya Met has urged residents in these areas to remain alert and take precautions against potential flooding, especially in low-lying areas, flood-prone zones, and along riverbanks. The department promised to provide timely updates if there are changes to the forecast.

The advisory has been shared with key government institutions, including the Presidency, Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, National Intelligence Service, Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Maritime Authority, Kenya Ports Authority, Kenya Airports Authority, and county meteorological offices.

The Kenya Red Cross also issued a warning urging the public to stay informed and take necessary safety measures.
