The government is trying to divert attention from the numerous corruption scandals by targeting governors, Council of Governors chairperson Josphat Nanok has said.

Speaking on Monday, the Turkana Governor said that devolution is under threat following the arrest of Busia Governor, Sospeter Ojaamong.

“National government its trying to avert the attention from what is happening. We should be discussing sugar. It is mischievous to call the press and arrest a governor,” Nanok said.

Ojaamong was arrested alongside three county executives and charged with allegations of conspiracy to defraud the County Government of Sh.8 million, engaging in projects without proper planning and abuse of office.

The four were on Friday released on a Sh.1 million cash bail after spending two days in police cells at the Integrity Centre.

Nanok also noted that three other counties are going through the same. He questioned why suspects in major corruption scandals are yet to face the law.

“We are aware that there are similar counties that will experience the same. This is the end of devolution, devolution is being corroded,” he said.

“The country has been aware of NYS and questions continue to linger on sugar and maize scandals… The heads have never been arrested yet billions have been lost,” he added.
