IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati may have declared the now nullified results of President Uhuru as credible when he announced him the winner two weeks ago under pressure.
A number of NASA insiders have told this blog the opposition coalition believe the IEBC Chairman had been misled to believe the election was free, fair and credible and had been pressured to declare President Uhuru validly elected.
Chebukati, according to sources, had agreed with NASA Chief Agent Musalia Mudavadi that he would not announce the ‘winner’ of the election in the evening he ended up doing so. The coalition believe Chebukati was threatened, and that under an environment without intimidation, he can still conduct a clean poll.
Unlike IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba who is believed to have a stake in the outcome of the poll which essentially assures him immunity from prosecution, Chebukati is said to have no skeletons in his closet.
The opposition demands changes at the IEBC Secretariat, beginning with the exit of Mr. Ezra Chiloba. Jubilee has come to the defense of Mr. Chiloba, vowing to have him stay put on the job.
A fresh election is to be held within 60 days.
