Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi have paid heartfelt tributes to the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga with symbolic gifts to his family in Bondo, Siaya County.
Governor Natembeya donated five bulls and 15 bags of maize to the Odinga family at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, describing it as a “humble token” of gratitude for Raila’s immense contribution to Kenya’s democracy and unity.
“This is a humble token of my deep appreciation for Raila Odinga’s monumental contribution to our nation, his lifelong pursuit of justice, democracy, and unity among all communities,” said Natembeya.
He lauded Raila as a mentor who nurtured leaders across generations and strengthened ties between the Mulembe and Nyanza regions. “As we mourn his passing, I reaffirm my commitment to carry forward his vision — working hand in hand with like-minded leaders to fulfill his dream of a united, prosperous, and just Kenya,” he added.
Meanwhile, Musalia Mudavadi sent bulls to Raila’s ancestral home in Opoda, Bondo, as a cultural symbol of solidarity and respect from the Luhya community. A delegation of Western Kenya elders delivered the animals on Saturday, dressed in traditional regalia and carrying messages of unity and condolence.
“Today we are bringing cows from our minister in solidarity with the departed,” said one elder while addressing mourners at the Odinga homestead.
Another elder used a proverb to emphasize brotherhood, saying, “If you put ugali without greens, it burns you. So we saw it fit to bring greens here. We brought cows and other items to honour the family.”
Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda and members of the Luo community received the gifts, thanking Mudavadi and the Mulembe delegation for their gesture of unity. They noted that the act reflected the long-standing friendship and mutual respect between the Luo and Luhya communities.
Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 15 at the age of 80, is being celebrated as a visionary leader who dedicated his life to Kenya’s political liberation, social justice, and constitutional reform. His body is currently lying in state at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu, where thousands have gathered for public viewing.
He will be laid to rest on Sunday at his Opoda Farm in Bondo, Siaya County.
