Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has resumed duties after a 60-day court order barred him from accessing his office.

The order had been issued in connection with corruption charges he is currently facing.

In a post on his social media platforms, Natembeya reaffirmed his commitment to deliver on his campaign promises, saying his focus remains on serving the people of Trans Nzoia and upholding the spirit of devolution.

“If I were to give in to fear, I would be failing the very people who entrusted me with leadership. I am fully aware that there are forces working to distract and derail us, but we will not be moved,” he said.

He added: “Let us stand united and push forward together for a better, stronger Kenya. After 60 days away, I’m back—recharged, focused, and ready to serve you with full force!”

Governor Natembeya is facing two counts of conflict of interest and one count of unlawful acquisition of public property. He is accused of benefiting financially from companies that secured contracts with the county government between January 2023 and April 2025.

In one instance, he allegedly received Sh1.1 million from Mercy Chelangat, the director of Lyma Agro Science Limited and proprietor of Maria Stores, which both conducted business with the county. In another count, he is said to have received Sh2.1 million from Emmanuel Wafula Masungo, the beneficial owner of Easterly Winds Limited, a company also contracted by the county.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) also claims Natembeya unlawfully acquired Sh3.25 million from public funds, believed to be part of payments made to Chelangat’s firm.

The charge sheet reads: “George Natembeya, between January 1, 2023, and April 30, 2025, within the Republic of Kenya, being an agent of a public body, to wit the Governor of the County Government of Trans Nzoia, you knowingly acquired an indirect pecuniary interest in the sum of Sh2,124,668 from Emmanuel Wafula Masungo, the beneficial owner of Easterly Winds Limited, which traded with the County Government of Trans Nzoia.”
