Nation Media Group (NMG) announced changes to its editorial leadership structure across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, effective immediately.
This follows a new take over by an investor linked to president William Ruto.
The changes follow a review of the Group’s editorial structure and evolving business requirements across the region, according to a communication signed by Group Managing Director and CEO Geoffrey Odundo.
In Uganda, Joe Ageyo was appointed Editor-in-Chief of NMG Uganda, while Washington Gikunju will serve as Acting Managing Editor.
In Tanzania, James Smart was appointed Acting Managing Editor, Broadcast and New Media, at Mwananchi Communications Limited.
This was seen as a demotion for the team which has been running the flagship in Kenya.
The appointments in Kenya include:
Harry Misiko — Acting Editor-in-Chief, Kenya
Dann Mwangi — Acting Managing Editor, Broadcast and New Media
John Kiplagat — Acting Managing Editor, Publishing
Justus Wanga — Acting Lead Editor, Weekend Edition
Michael Owuor — Acting Lead Editor, Daily Nation
Ben Kitili — Acting Lead Editor, Broadcasting
Michael Omondi — Acting Lead Editor, Business Daily
Alex Ndegwa — Editor, Content Hub
Odundo congratulated the appointed editors and called on staff to accord them the necessary support as they transition into their respective roles.
“Following a review of the Group’s editorial structure and evolving business requirements across the region, we wish to inform you of the following changes, effective immediately,” Odundo said.
There are more changes expected in the coming days as the new investor takes charge.
The industry is facing challenges including competition from the social media.
