    Early Life

Neil Patrick Cavuto was born on September 22, 1958, in Westbury, New York. His father, Patrick Cavuto, worked as a sales executive for a can company, while his mother, Kathleen, worked as a United Nations staffer and housewife.

Cavuto was raised in Danbury, Connecticut, and attended Immaculate High School. At the age of 17, he became the manager of a fish-and-chips restaurant.

While still young, Cavuto gained early experience in politics and government when he worked as a White House intern during the administration of President Jimmy Carter.

He later attended St. Bonaventure University in New York, graduating in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication. He subsequently earned a master’s degree from American University in Washington, D.C.

    Television Career

Cavuto began building his national television profile at CNBC. He became one of the network’s principal anchors and co-anchored CNBC’s inaugural broadcast in April 1989.

He also hosted Power Lunch, one of CNBC’s signature business programs, and contributed to NBC’s Today.

Cavuto later joined PBS’s Nightly Business Report, where he spent many years covering the financial markets and major economic developments.

His experience at CNBC and PBS established him as an experienced financial journalist before he moved to Fox News.

    Fox News Career

Cavuto joined Fox News in July 1996, several months before the network officially launched.

He became the host and managing editor of Your World with Neil Cavuto, a program that combined business news, political coverage, interviews, market updates, and economic analysis.

The program became one of Fox News’ most recognizable business-oriented shows. Cavuto regularly interviewed politicians, business executives, economists, investors, and other major newsmakers.

His role expanded further when Fox Business Network was launched. In March 2006, Cavuto became a vice president of Fox Business News.

He later hosted Cavuto: Coast to Coast on Fox Business and continued to appear across Fox programming.

In January 2018, he began hosting Cavuto Live, a weekend program that examined major political, economic, and business developments.

Cavuto remained with Fox until December 19, 2024, when he ended his 28-year association with the network.

    Covering Major Financial Events

One of the defining aspects of Cavuto’s career was his coverage of major financial events.

He reported on the 1987 stock market crash early in his career and later covered the technology boom of the 1990s and the collapse that followed the dot-com bubble.

He was also a prominent television voice during the 2008 financial crisis, when the collapse of major financial institutions and the housing market triggered a severe recession.

Cavuto continued covering financial markets through the COVID-19 pandemic and the dramatic market volatility that followed.

His ability to explain complicated economic developments to a general television audience helped establish his reputation as a leading business journalist.

    Books

Cavuto has also earned money as an author.

He published More Than Money in 2004, followed by Your Money or Your Life in 2005. Both books became New York Times bestsellers.

His books expanded on themes that were central to his television career, including money, work, personal finances, and the relationship between economic conditions and everyday life.

Book publishing provided another source of income while also strengthening his profile outside television.

    Awards and Recognition

Cavuto received five CableACE Award nominations from the National Cable Television Association for his work in television.

Although much of his career was centered on financial journalism, his influence extended beyond traditional business reporting. He became known for interviewing people across politics and business and for discussing economic issues in a format accessible to mainstream television audiences.

His longevity was also notable. Remaining a prominent television journalist for decades made him one of the most established figures in American business news.

    Health Challenges

Cavuto continued working despite significant health challenges.

He survived cancer and was later diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He also underwent major heart surgery in 2016.

His health struggles became part of his public story, particularly because he continued working in television despite dealing with serious medical issues.

His ability to maintain a demanding broadcasting career through these challenges contributed to his reputation for resilience.

    Personal Life

Neil Cavuto married Mary Fulling in 1983. The couple has three children: Bradley, Tara, and Jeremy.

Cavuto and his family have lived in Mendham Borough, New Jersey, where he has owned a substantial residential property.

Despite his high-profile career, Cavuto has generally kept much of his family life away from the spotlight.

    Real Estate

Real estate has also formed part of Cavuto’s wealth.

In 2007, he paid approximately $6.3 million for a property of more than five acres in Mendham, New Jersey. The estate includes a roughly 9,400-square-foot mansion.

The property represents one of the more significant publicly reported purchases associated with Cavuto and reflects the wealth he accumulated during his years as a leading television journalist.
