Nick Suzuki is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre and the captain of the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League.

Born on August 10, 1999, in London, Ontario, he stands at 5 feet 11 inches and weighs approximately 207 pounds.

Selected 13th overall by the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Suzuki was traded to the Canadiens in 2018 as part of the deal sending Max Pacioretty to Vegas.

He has developed into one of the league’s most reliable two-way centres, known for his playmaking ability, defensive responsibility, faceoff prowess, and leadership on and off the ice.

Through more than 500 NHL games, he has accumulated over 470 points while serving as the 31st captain in Canadiens franchise history.

    Siblings

Nick’s younger brother, Ryan Suzuki, is also a professional hockey player who was drafted 28th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut with the team in 2025.

The brothers grew up in a highly competitive household, sharing a sibling rivalry that pushed both to improve, though their parents emphasized fun and support over pressure.

They often trained together and celebrated each other’s successes, with the family frequently splitting time between their games during their junior hockey days.

    Career

Suzuki began his junior career in minor hockey with the London Junior Knights before moving to the Ontario Hockey League.

He played for the Owen Sound Attack, where he emerged as a top prospect, and was traded to the Guelph Storm midway through his final junior season.

With Guelph, he helped capture the OHL championship in 2019 while posting impressive offensive numbers.

Internationally, he represented Canada at the World Junior Championship and other youth events.

After being drafted by Vegas, Suzuki made his NHL debut with the Canadiens in the 2019-20 season and quickly established himself as a key contributor.

He recorded 41 points in 71 games as a rookie and continued to build consistency in subsequent seasons.

By 2021-22, he broke out with 61 points in 82 games, and his production has steadily climbed, reaching the 100-point plateau in recent campaigns.

Named captain of the Canadiens in 2022, Suzuki has anchored the team’s forward group through both rebuilding phases and competitive runs.

    Accolades

Suzuki’s junior accolades include winning the OHL championship with the Guelph Storm, earning OHL First All-Star Team honours, and being named CHL Sportsman of the Year.

He also claimed the Hanley Trophy as the OHL’s most gentlemanly player and was recognized as the Alliance Hockey Player of the Year in minor hockey.

On the international stage, he contributed to Canada’s gold medal at the U17 World Hockey Challenge and earned a silver medal at the Olympics with the senior national team.

In the NHL, Suzuki was selected to the NHL All-Rookie Team in his debut season.

He has received strong consideration for awards such as the Lady Byng Trophy for sportsmanship and skill, and in 2025-26 he was nominated for the King Clancy Trophy, which honours leadership and humanitarian contributions.
