Nina Dobrev is a Bulgarian-Canadian actress renowned for her captivating performances in both television and film.
Born Nikolina Kamenova Dobreva on January 9, 1989, in Sofia, Bulgaria, she moved to Canada with her family at the age of two and was raised in Toronto.
She holds dual citizenship and speaks fluent English and Bulgarian.
Dobrev gained widespread fame for her dual role as Elena Gilbert and the cunning Katherine Pierce in the hit supernatural series The Vampire Diaries.
Siblings
Nina has one older sibling, her brother Alexander Dobrev.
The two grew up together after their family’s relocation from Bulgaria to Canada, where they navigated the challenges of immigration and cultural adjustment.
As children, their relationship was reportedly marked by typical sibling rivalry, including periods of “absolute hatred” as they described in a joint podcast appearance.
Over time, travel and shared experiences brought them closer, fostering a strong bond.
Alexander has largely stayed out of the public eye, maintaining a private life and career distinct from Hollywood.
