The government has announced that there shall be no extension on the registration of Kenyans for the Huduma Namba.

During a press conference, Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i declared that extending the process will cost the government extra money since the agents carrying out the registration are paid Ksh1,000 per day.

Affirming that the exercise ends on Saturday, 18,Matiang’i mentioned: “The exercise ends on Saturday Kenyans need to know that we are paying those conducting this exercise Ksh.1000 a day and every time we lose/ extend a day then it means we are going to spend a little more money.

“We have no plans to extend this exercise. It ends on 18th May 2019. If someone misses out on the mass registration for some reason, then they may register at their assistant chief’s office,” Matiang’i exclaimed.

Despite stating that those who will miss out on the mass registration will have to visit the Assistant Chief’s offices, the Interior CS advised Kenyans to heed to the timelines.

He further noted that the government has extended the operating timelines for the agents from 6am to 6pm across the country since this is the final week for the registration.

Matiang’i went ahead to note that over 31 million Kenyans have registered for the Huduma Namba that was launched last month by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We have registered 31million Kenyans. That is a very impressive number which represents about 65% of our projected population in the country in terms of registration.

“Now that everyone understands this exercise is coming to an end on 18th May 2019, we therefore hope people will come out in large numbers,” Matiang’i told Kenyans.

Additionally, the revealed that the government began another phase of registration this week that addresses Kenyans in the Diaspora.

“We have distributed a total of 154 KIEMS kits in 54 missions around the world. Kenyans in Diaspora will have until 20th of June 2019 to do their mass registration,” he stated.
