The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a safety advisory ahead of schools reopening next week. Schools are set to resume on Monday, January 5, 2026, following the long holiday break.
In a statement released on December 30, 2025, NTSA reminded private motorists, public transport operators, school administrators, and parents of their shared responsibility in ensuring children’s safety during this busy period.
“We urge all road users to strictly follow traffic rules, plan their journeys carefully, and avoid night travel due to reduced visibility,” the statement said.
Vehicle owners are expected to ensure that any cars or buses used to transport children are roadworthy, properly maintained, and fully licensed, including valid insurance, road service licenses, and inspection certificates.
NTSA strongly appealed to parents and guardians not to allow children to board vehicles that do not meet safety standards. Previous inspections found serious defects in some school transport vehicles, including faulty brakes, missing or broken seat belts, unstable seats, malfunctioning door locks, and speed limiters that were not working or transmitting data.
Motor vehicle owners are encouraged to take advantage of the remaining days before schools reopen and present their vehicles for the mandatory annual inspection. All NTSA motor vehicle inspection centers are open and operational.
NTSA also directed speed limiter vendors to ensure that all installed devices comply with KS2295:2018 standards, including proper functioning, speed limiting, data storage, and real-time transmission to the NTSA system.
