Elders and traders in Nyamira County said they are perturbed with the ongoing buildup of animosity between Governor Amos Nyaribo and Senator Okongo Omogeni.

They both fingered the Governor accusing him of fomenting the squabbles at the expense of development.

“We elected him to serve the people of Nyamira not to fight the Senator who has been doing his oversight mandate with unwavering devotion,” stated Kennedy Gisemba, group leader also former councilor said.

Gisemba said it was wrong for the Governor to feel agitated when Omogeni over sighting him

“As Nyamira people, we stand with the Senator. Without him we cannot know how the governor is using our resources. Instead of the governor funding youths to do pararell press conferences to counter the Senator ,he should use that money to do development,” stated Gisemba.

Addressing journalists at Mosobeti in Borabu Sub-county, the group told Nyaribo to show the residents what he has done since he came to office other than engaging his Senator in endless blame games.

“All we hear of him is endless visits to the Senate to explain the lack of transparency in fiscal management of n his administration,” he said.

Last week the Senator spoke of “consistent failure” by the governor to deliver on key development promises made during the 2022 election campaigns.

“For three years now, all we have heard are empty speeches and broken promises,” Senator Omogeni said.

“There are no new roads and hospitals remain incomplete. It is clear that has no intention of serving the people of Nyamira who elected him.”

And speaking in Sironga a fortnight ago, the senator alleged that millions of shillings allocated for infrastructure, healthcare, and education had not been properly used to benefit the residents.

He demanded that investigative agencies step in to probe the county’s expenditure.

The governor, however, dismissed the senator’s remarks describing them “baseless political theatrics aimed at tarnishing his administration’s reputation ahead of the 2027 elections.”

Nyaribo cited several projects underway saying it was up to the people to judge him through the ballot rather than through the Senator’s vindictive outbursts.

“Just because you have shown interest in my seat doesn’t make you go round making wild remarks about me,” stated Nyaribo.

Appearing before the Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee a month ago, the Governor was left exposed after failing to convincingly defend himself over allegations of mismanagement and misuse of county funds.

During the string of sessions, the Governor appeared to struggle to provide satisfactory explanations regarding audit queries amounting to hundreds of millions of shillings flagged by the Auditor-General.

His repeated claims of being “unaware” of specific expenditures and missing key documents drew sharp criticism from senators.

Omogeni said the governor was being cagey with truth when he appeared before the Senate.

“This is not just about incompetence; it borders on gross negligence,” he said.

On Monday ,the elders and traders at Mosobeti appeared to side with the senator.

Mary Moragwa a trader said: “We were promised change, but life has only gotten harder. We see no projects, just empty promises.”

She said the fruits of devolution are being eaten in boardrooms as mwananchi continue to suffer.
