The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced a nationwide recruitment exercise targeting cadets and privates, with over 700 vacancies available.

In a notice dated Tuesday, March 3, 2026, NYS invited qualified Kenyans to apply for a variety of professional and technical positions. The recruitment will run from Monday, March 16 to Saturday, March 21, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily at designated centers across the country.

For the cadet positions, applicants must be Kenyan citizens, residents of the sub-county where recruitment takes place, aged 18 to 24 years, have attained at least a D plain in KCSE, and hold a valid certificate of good conduct. Candidates are required to present their original national ID and academic certificates and submit photocopies at the recruitment centers.

The service noted that candidates must be willing to undergo medical examinations, complete Basic Paramilitary Training, and be ready to serve the nation in any part of the country. Successful candidates will report to either the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil or the NYS Technical Training Institute in Naivasha, according to the dates and times in their calling letters.

NYS warned that any form of corruption or bribery during recruitment will lead to automatic disqualification and possible prosecution.

In addition, NYS announced 500 vacancies for privates. Applicants must have a minimum KCSE grade of D+, completed NYS training, hold a national trade test, and have no criminal record.

Interested candidates can download the application form from the Public Service Commission website and submit it via email to director.generalnys@gmail.com. Alternatively, applications can be sent by post to Commandant General, National Youth Service, P.O. Box 30397 – 00100, GPO Nairobi.
