Officer Commanding Station (OCS) in Tharaka-nithi Joseph Kinyua is among four people killed by angry residents, after going to investigate the murder of a chief, Mr Mayau Mukengu.

Kinyua was killed alongside another officer who had accompanied him to the scene of the murder, in a bid to investigate the case.

Mr Mukengu was slashed to death by residents of Kamaindi location last evening, and his body burnt last evening.

According to reports, the residents gruesomely killed the chief following a revelation that he had a hand in the murder of the man who died in 2018.

The residents of Itare have also accused the chief of carrying out many illegal dealings in the government offices such as supporting vigilante groups in the area, hence denying them their rightful services.

Later, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced that three suspects had been arrested by detectives following the brutal killing of 57year-old Mukengu.

The Chief had gone to settle a case when the suspects attacked him with pangas before setting his body on fire.

The residents alleged that they had numerously reported the chief to the local police but the authorities failed to arrest him.
