ODM’s Mbadi Rubbishes Orengo Claim Of Uhuru-Raila 2022 Alliance

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Chairman John Mbadi has dismissed Siaya Senator James Orengo’s claim that President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga have entered into an agreement over the 2022 poll.

The senator, who spoke to KTN News on Wednesday, alluded to a possible alliance between the opposition leader and President Kenyatta in the 2022 polls.

“ODM is going for political power, and when we are holding these meetings our eyes are set on 2022. The contestation for power is going to come from a formation with ODM in it and formation of Jubilee where Uhuru Kenyatta is playing a role,” Orengo said.

According to Mbadi, who doubles as the National Assembly Minority Leader, Orengo’s views were personal and can’t be regarded as a party position.

“I want to set the record straight and make it categorical that ODM has not formed any alliance with any party or individual.

“Any contrary opinion should therefore be treated as personal,” Mbadi said.

Speaking at Parliament buildings in Nairobi on Thursday, Mbadi stated that it was premature to declare a stand on the 200 polls.

“It would be premature for anybody to say that we have entered into a political agreement with anybody. Maybe that is Orengo’s wish, which is not bad, but he should not confuse the people that it is the party position,” he said.

He reiterated that the ODM party is focused on nine-point agenda well spelt out in the handshake, further, adding that 2022 politics ought to be shelved.

“The handshake has nine-point agenda well spelt out, including the need to unite the country. This does not mean the party has entered into any political arrangement for 2022,” Mbadi said.

“As a party we have been discouraging other people from engaging in early campaigns for 2022 and cannot turn back and start doing the same thing.”

The sentiments come amid heated debate on the role of Raila in government with a section of leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto accusing him of being behind the cracks in the Jubilee party.

The leaders led by Nandi Governor Stephen Sang and Kapseret Member of Parliament Osca Sudi have openly accused Raila and President Kenyatta of using the fight against graft to frustrate the Kalenjin community.
