Police Officers attached to West Pokot Governor, John Lonyangapuo have been withdrawn following a incident where he removed a police road-block and freed a boda boda rider.

Officers guarding his home have also been withdrawn.

On Wednesday, the county boss stormed a road block on the Kitale-Lodwar highway. According to him, officers use them to harass motorists.

The freed boda boda rider, Leonard Powon was transporting onions from Ortum when he was arrested because he allegedly did not money to grease the officers’ palms.

“We shall not allow police officers to erect illegal roadblocks to harass our people,” Lonyangapuo said.

The governor said the re-enforcement of the Michuki Rules is not reason enough for the officers to frustrate road users.

On Thursday, CS Interior Fred Matiang’i sensitized road users, including matatu operators and passengers, on the need to obey traffic rules so as to ensure road safety.
