Security officers in Hadado Sub-county, Wajir County, are investigating a shooting and arson attack in which armed assailants allegedly targeted a settlement along Wesesta Road in Wildira area.

According to authorities, the incident was reported on Wednesday at around 2:30pm after members of the public raised an alarm over an attack that occurred early in the morning at around 6am.

Preliminary reports indicate that more than 20 unidentified armed attackers stormed the settlement, where they set ablaze two manyatta houses and vandalised at least 13 others.

During the attack, one resident, a 50-year-old man, sustained gunshot injuries to the thigh. He was rushed to Lagbogol Dispensary where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Several other residents sustained minor injuries during the incident, police said.

Security teams recovered nine spent AK-47 cartridges from the scene, indicating the use of automatic weapons in the attack.

Authorities have launched investigations into the incident, with security operations ongoing to trace the attackers and assess the extent of damage in the affected settlement.

The motive of the attack was not immediately established, police said as a team was sent to the area to pursue the attackers. Tension remained high in the villages amid fears of retaliatory attacks.

Meanwhile, police in Igoji Sub-county, Meru County, are investigating a suspected murder incident following the discovery of a 63-year-old man’s body inside his house at Ntare Village, Kiathathi Sub-location.

According to police, a team visited the scene after reports of a suspicious death.

At the scene, investigators established that the deceased, identified as Richard Kimathi, was found with a deep cut at the back of the neck.

Police also noted that the house appeared to have been locked from the outside.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was removed to Kanyakine Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
