The United Alternative Government has announced plans to field a single candidate in the upcoming Ol Kalou Constituency parliamentary by-election.

In a statement issued by Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, the opposition coalition said the candidate will be identified through an independent scientific survey and a credible opinion poll.

Kalonzo said the move reflects the coalition’s commitment to unity, democracy, and evidence-based decision-making, adding that national interests must take precedence over individual ambitions.

The announcement follows earlier consultations among coalition partners.

“Following extensive consultations among coalition partners, we have reached a principled agreement to support a single candidate under the United Alternative Government banner,” the statement said.

The coalition noted that the approach is aimed at strengthening opposition unity and increasing its chances in the by-election.

At the same time, the opposition called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure the poll is conducted in a fair, transparent and credible manner.

The Ol Kalou parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of three-term MP David Njuguna Kiaraho on March 29, 2026.

The IEBC has already cleared nine candidates to contest the July 16 by-election. They include Samuel Muchina Nyagah (UDA), Kamau Ngotho (DCP), Wilson Kigwa (Jubilee), Timothy Kamau Kariuku (PRP), Rachael Wangui Njoroge (PDP), Edwin Kariiri Muchiri (PNU), Stephen Wanyoike (NLP), Edward Mathenge (KMM) and Abdullahi Abdifatah Hussein (FPK).
