Over 100 Kenyans in Cambodia feared victims of human trafficking

A distressing message from Kenyan citizens currently in Cambodia has surfaced, raising alarm over the safety of more than 100 people reportedly being held under threatening conditions, with fears they may be sold into human trafficking.

The plea for urgent help was sent by Nancy Akinyi, a Kenyan national, who claims that the group is not free to leave, faces intimidation, and their lives are in serious danger.

The situation, she warns, is worsening rapidly.

“We urgently request immediate intervention, protection, and rescue, and assistance to return safely to Kenya,” the message read.

The group offered to share their exact location and all relevant details securely to aid in their rescue.

The call for help highlights the grave risk of human trafficking facing vulnerable Kenyan migrants abroad, underscoring the need for swift governmental and international response.

Human trafficking remains a critical issue globally, with victims often exploited through coercion, intimidation, and false promises of employment or better living conditions.

The plea serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing risks faced by citizens abroad and the urgent need for coordinated rescue efforts.

Officials at the ministry of foreign affairs said they are handling the matter.

Dozens of other Kenyans are stuck in Myanmar and efforts are being made to bring them home.
