    Parking Fees In Nairobi Goes Down In Latest Tax Review

    Nairobi county has adjusted taxes within the CBD in a quest to collect more revenue. In the review, motorists are the biggest beneficiaries as parking fees is expected to go down.

    The finance bill introduced by the county government will see parking fees from reuduced from Ksh300 to Ks200.  The fee for approval of building plans was set at 0.5 per cent of the construction cost which is a reduction of 2.5 per cent.

    The county officials said that they were loosing a lot of revenue through unscrupulous people who collected a lower parking fee within the CBD from the stipulated amount.

    However Taxi firms  will bear the brunt after their licenses will increase in the the latest proposal. They will be required to pay Ksh50,000 for firms with up to 50 cars, Ks100,000 for those with 51 to 100 vehicles, and Ksh300,000 for companies with over 100 vehicles.

    Schools and household will now pay lower fees for garbage collection. Households will now pay less Ksh500 to have their garbage collected.

    The bill also proposes the reduction of the food handlers license from Ksh7000 to Ksh1000.

    Other Licenses  that will be affected include the license to operate a casino which will cost SKsh1 million and an annual license fee of Ksh300,000 with a renewal fee of Ksh10,000.  The cost of yellow fever vaccine has also increased and one will have to part Ksh2,000 for the injection and the certificate.
