Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has appointed a 38-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) to oversee preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

According to a special gazette notice dated March 30, 2026, veteran sports administrator Nicholas Musonye will chair the committee, with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed serving as vice-chairperson.

The committee brings together key stakeholders from sports administration, government, and the private sector. Among the members are Evans Achoki, former international footballer McDonald Mariga, Brigadier Titus Sokobe, Osman Abdi, June Chepkemei, Mary Mwiti, Nuh Ibrahim, Agnes Kalekye, and Peninah Wahome.

Other members include Douglas Ratemo, Timothy Kilimo, Dr Doreen Odhiambo, Lilian Nyawada, former FKF Chief Executive Officer Lordvick Aduda, K.K. Mutai, Juma Maulidi Wahoga, Rebecca Natabo Ekwam, Robert Macharia, Timothy Nabea, Abdalla Yusuf Ibrahim, and Ahmed Qadar Dabar.

The list also features Gabriel Mghendi, Peter Kamau, Kerubo Momanyi, Benard Lagat, Collins Kalee, Caleb Amwayi, Ken Rungu, former AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda, Charles Njagi, Thomas Karugu, Evelyn Cheluget, Miriam Chepkoech, Rodgers Chimega, Diana Injendi Manyengo, and Collins Were.

The LOC Secretariat will be based at the Ministry of Sports offices at Talanta Plaza in Upper Hill, Nairobi, and will be headed by Antony Emmanuel Inzahuli Lung’aho, who will oversee day-to-day operations and coordination.

Mvurya said the committee will be responsible for mobilising stakeholders, coordinating logistics, and developing a clear roadmap for the tournament.

The team will also oversee the renovation and upgrading of stadiums to meet standards set by the Confederation of African Football, including requirements on security, seating capacity, and pitch quality.

In addition, the committee will manage key areas such as ticketing, media relations, sponsorship, transport, accommodation, and fan engagement, while also promoting the tournament locally and internationally.

The Sports CS noted that the LOC will be funded through government allocations and private sector support to enable it to deliver on its mandate.

Meanwhile, following Kenya’s payment of the Sh3.9 billion hosting fee to CAF, officials from the three host nations are expected to meet next month to discuss the establishment of a joint framework to coordinate preparations for the tournament.
