    Career Earnings

Phil Ivey has accumulated more than $19.5 million in live poker tournament winnings over the course of his career.

Beyond tournaments, he has earned substantial sums from elite cash games, including legendary high-stakes sessions at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and private games involving some of the world’s richest poker enthusiasts.

His success in both tournament and cash-game formats has made him one of the highest-earning poker professionals in history.

    World Series of Poker Success

Ivey made his World Series of Poker debut in 2000, immediately announcing himself as one of poker’s brightest talents.

That year, he won his first WSOP bracelet in Pot-Limit Omaha, becoming the first player to defeat poker legend Amarillo Slim in a WSOP heads-up final.

His biggest breakthrough came in 2002, when he captured three WSOP bracelets in a single year, tying the record for the most bracelet victories in one season.

Over the following years, Ivey continued adding to his remarkable collection by winning bracelets in:

    • 2005
    • 2009 (two victories)
    • 2010
    • 2013
    • 2014

With 10 WSOP bracelets, Ivey became one of the most successful players in poker history.

    World Poker Tour

Phil Ivey has also enjoyed considerable success on the World Poker Tour.

In 2008, he claimed his first WPT title by winning the prestigious LA Poker Classic, earning more than $1.5 million in prize money after defeating a strong final table featuring several of poker’s biggest names.

He has reached multiple World Poker Tour final tables throughout his career.

    High-Stakes Cash Games

Away from tournament poker, Ivey is renowned for his dominance in high-stakes cash games.

He has regularly participated in some of the world’s biggest poker games, particularly at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

One of his most famous victories came against billionaire Andy Beal, with reports indicating Ivey won more than $16 million during their legendary heads-up Texas Hold’em sessions.

He also enjoyed significant success in online poker, winning millions of dollars while competing on Full Tilt Poker.

    Legal Disputes

Despite his extraordinary poker success, Ivey has been involved in several high-profile legal battles.

In 2012, London’s Crockfords Casino refused to pay his baccarat winnings after accusing him of using an edge-sorting technique to gain an advantage during play.

A similar dispute arose with Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, which sought to recover millions of dollars in baccarat winnings.

Courts ultimately ruled in favor of the casinos, resulting in Ivey losing both legal cases and forfeiting millions in disputed winnings.

    Early Life

Phil Ivey was born Phillip Dennis Ivey Jr. on February 1, 1977, in Riverside, California.

He later moved with his family to Roselle, New Jersey, where he attended Old Bridge High School.

As a teenager, Ivey developed a passion for poker and reportedly used a fake identification card to play in Atlantic City casinos before reaching legal gambling age.

While working at a telemarketing company during the late 1990s, he continued refining his poker skills by regularly competing against co-workers.
