Phoebe Gates Siblings: All About Jennifer and Rory John Gates

Phoebe Gates PHOTO/The List

Phoebe Gates is the youngest daughter of billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates and his ex-wife, Melinda French Gates.

Born on September 14, 2002, in Seattle, she is recognized as an entrepreneur, women’s health advocate, and social media influencer.

As the third child in the family, Phoebe grew up in a household that emphasized privacy and normalcy despite her parents’ immense public profile.

Her parents intentionally had their children use their mother’s maiden name, French, until high school to allow them to form authentic friendships without the influence of the Gates surname.

Siblings

Phoebe has two siblings, an older sister, Jennifer Gates, and an older brother, Rory John Gates.

Jennifer, the eldest, born in 1996, pursued a career in medicine after graduating from Stanford University with a degree in human biology; she now works as a pediatric resident at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Rory, born in 1999, maintains a notably lower public profile and currently works as an analyst in Washington, D.C..

Career

Phoebe has built a dynamic career at the intersection of technology, fashion, and advocacy.

She graduated from Stanford University in June 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in human biology and a minor in African studies, completing her degree in just three years.

During and after her time at Stanford, she co-founded Phia, a fashion-tech startup, with her former roommate Sophia Kianni.

Launched in 2025, Phia is an AI-powered shopping platform that scans thousands of retail and resale sites to provide real-time price comparisons, secondhand alternatives, and personalized recommendations, promoting sustainable and smarter fashion consumption.

The app has attracted significant investment, including millions in funding from prominent backers, and has grown rapidly with hundreds of thousands of downloads and partnerships with numerous brands.

In addition to her entrepreneurial work, Phoebe co-hosts the podcast “The Burnouts” with Kianni, where they discuss personal and professional topics.

She has also produced content focused on reproductive rights, including a video documentary series with model Karlie Kloss highlighting the impacts of abortion restrictions.

Accolades

In 2025, she was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the Retail & Ecommerce category for her innovative work with Phia.

Reproductive Freedom for All honored her as its 2024 Rising Reproductive Freedom Champion in acknowledgment of her efforts to advance women’s health and access to reproductive choices.
